Africa Caribbean Student Association Handover Event at World Maritime University
The Africa Caribbean Student Association (ACSA) recently held its annual handover event, a key event to pass on leadership, and community integration. Hosted at WMU’s Henrik Smith Residence, the event united students, faculty, and WMU community members to mark the transition of ACSA’s leadership while strengthening bonds of togetherness.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Michael Manuel the WMU Academic Dean and patron of the ACSA, who emphasized corporation, togetherness and community integration. Attendees savored authentic dishes like jollof rice and jerk chicken, creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere that resonated with international students far from home. These shared cultural experiences fostered connections among WMU’s diverse student body.
During the handover ceremony, outgoing ACSA leaders reflected on their contributions, emphasizing the association’s role in building a supportive network for students navigating academic and cultural challenges at WMU. The incoming leadership pledged to uphold ACSA’s mission of promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity, aligning with WMU’s commitment to global maritime education and diversity.
The event went beyond leadership transition, serving as a platform for community integration and bridged cultural gaps, fostering mutual understanding in Malmö’s multicultural setting. This aligns with WMU’s ethos of cultivating global perspectives among future maritime leaders.
The ACSA handover event was a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity. By celebrating shared heritage and fostering cross-cultural connections, ACSA continues to enrich WMU’s campus, creating a vibrant, inclusive community where students from Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond feel valued and empowered.
